Idea description:

The Jaskový rad Street is one of the most undersized streets in Bratislava. It is limited by a slope rising up to Koliba on one side and by a slope
leading down to the railway on the other side. The railway is parallel to the main arterial road – the Pražská Street. A lot of traffic. The narrow Jaskový rad. Dwelling. Relaxa- tion. Can we solve it? We face another problem at the crossroad of Kamzík Road and Jaskový rad Street. The Kamzík Road
ends by a vertical banked turn. When using a bicycle, remember to have good brakes. Then we have just Kramáre to the right and the city centre to the left, and we are still in the same narrow and busy street. A vision of weekend relaxation. Can we solve it? Our proposal consists of two solutions relat- ing one to another. Extending the narrow Jaskový rad Street to an elevated promenade; this would immediately make the territory more attractive. The
current road profile with its narrow pavement at one side, a road of minimum width and a narrow pavement on the other side, which does not give us much pleasure, would be changed to everyone’s benefit. The current pavement at the low end would be turned into a longitudinal parking space com-
bined with green areas filtering negative impacts of the Pražská Street. The promenade for pedestrians would start at the point of the slope’s rapid falling
down with a height of 12-15 m above the half-sunk railway. The lifted bracket would not have to be too demanding from the static point of view regarding the fact that the promenade is dedicated to pedestrians only. The width of 4 metres would provide, other than the movement of pedestrians,
the alternative of locating small services here (a little coffee shop, flowers, an athenaeum, fast food…). Since the facilities would be made as a system of standardized mobile containers simply connectable to the expounded terrace structure, their features could be very simply mountable or dismountable.
The proposed solution of the problematic terri- tory also includes a connection between the Jaskový rad Street and the Calvary at the opposite side of Pražská Street by a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists. This would connect two recreational zones – Kamzík and Koliba at one side and Calvary and Horský park at the other side. A circular shape supports the relaxation character. It is not a connection primarily focused on shortening the time required for moving from point A to point B. It is a bridge connecting two slow residential and recreation sec- tions and this is also reflected in the morphology of the footbridge. It provides a possibility to choose the route or to drive circuits around the footbridge. It provides a chance to compete, which is a consistent part of relaxation and sport. Regarding its construc- tion, the footbridge shall hang on columns posi- tioned at its points, which will not collide with other determinants, while respecting the distressing city radial road and the railway. This supplements the regular footbridge shape with an irregular system, which contributes to the complex from expressive point of view. At night, the lit up footbridge shall resemble a large aura flying above the territory and emphasizing one of the main entrances to and exits from our capital.
