Idea description:

The Sport in the City project is trying to find a solution for a problem we‘re directly confronted with. The sentence “I‘m sorry, but we are fully booked“ is a regular response when booking a sports facility by phone even a week ahead. Bratislava has a huge problem with public premises and leisure time. The same goes for sporting premises and areas. Why are classic sports marginalized within public premises? Does the city currently only involve
alternative subculture sports that are adapted to its morphology? A characteristic feature of any advanced community is that it provides a choice of
lifestyles, which differ from a qualitative point of view and which are related to a purposeful use of leisure time.
We’re responding to the untapped potential of the last large park areas in the city. The areas are
dedicated to relaxation. Is taking the dogs and children or even groups of adolescent “rappers” out, the only leisure time activity in the city? Is vandalism the last impossible alternative? Are we really obliged to drive into peripheral shopping centres for our sporting needs? Our solution involves a minimum of interven- tions. A few white stripes on concrete surfaces or on empty lawns. Identification of territories by means of stripes and rules and the dream of bringing life back into the city. The zones reserved for playgrounds of traditional sports such as jogging, badminton, football or basketball are what we’re getting at. We therefore propose a running track of 400 metres of length in Námestie slobody. This intention would require a high-class surface and
good lighting. At the same time, safety during night hours will be resolved by means of good visibility. Grassalkovichova Garden is an ideal place for several badminton courts. The proposed playgrounds can be used as models, which are not strictly bound to a particular place, but can be also simply conducted in other sections, even outside of Bratislava.
