Current status
Each of us has a favourite place in our City, at which he (she) likes to relax, to lounge, to discuss, to take in the city atmosphere, to “criticize” the environment, either dynamic or static. The same for us; we have pitched our strategic station in a coffee shop with a scent of nostalgia. Though it doesn’t occur as regularly as before, rather sporadically, we always find something “worth watching”. Just the
“background” remains the same, grey, dully Cartesian, maybe faultless, but strictly purposeful; unfortunately single sided. Each square should be basically a social place, open, free, breathing and liberal. But our „exhibition background“ is somehow wrong. Fencing was here in previous troubled times too, but we quickly weaned out of it. Today the frontiers are fortunately only a memory. Today we are rather adapting to the construction ones, the frosted ones with advertisements. However, the square has been free of construction activities for quite a long time. The fencing remains and the square retains its “democratic” frontiers.

Proposed status
So how to maintain the fence‘s original purpose, i.e. transparency and safety, and, at the same time, to make it unique, perhaps slightly extravagant, but still not too contrasting? How to hit, to “strike” this rigid fencing network in a place-forming man- ner? In our case we can have even several hits or targets with a fluorescent surface fixed (“struck”) to the fence posts. Incidentally or intentionally in a graphic shortcut, showing, for example, the scen- ery of Bratislava’s embankment or famous faces or symbols. The action could be conducted by painters, students or laymen in the frame of current events. The fencing could be a part of the city events, public celebrations, sponsorship or charity events. The fence will create a basis only, a background for a pixel picture, just like an ordinary wall for graffiti. It will be transparent, evocative at night due to its lighting, and, at the same time, it will be used for orientation like a wall made of Braille for non-blind people. The fencing will remain a barrier determined by points – targets creating the structure of large scale display.
