With the development of digital communication, the post office annually registers a decrease in the number of mailboxes, but also a significantly different fulfillment of their capacities. Although mailboxes represent a sort of “endangered species”, worries about their disappearance are without merit. The number of mailboxes is ruled by a binding ordinance where mailbox accessibility principles are governed by rules similar to the requirements for bus stop accessibility. The combination of both networks in an amphibious system, where it is not only a method of the administration of ordinary deliveries undergoing a major transformation, but in particular, the merging of collecting transfer junctions (posts and depots) effectively solve the operation of unprofitable services. The system of hybrid forms of transportation like the one e.g. in Bulgaria has been functioning successfully since the 1970s.
