Idea description:

Our city is, just like other cities around the World, an organism, which is growing, developing, but which also faces many problems and disproportions. We were trying to find those issues, which could, in our opinion, help the city in its development and which, at the same time, would solve some of its sealed problems. We often follow discussions and ponderings related to the fact that the city centre is too small. Some people lay their hopes on the new complexes on the centre’s edge, and yet others call for the construction of copies of original built-up areas and urbanization. We believe that the centre can also be developed in its current shape without any relation to these new construction activities. We have therefore decided to deal with the possibilities of an extension of the centre and in wider centre’s environmental humanization by means of collage. At the same time, our concept is based on another development determinant, i.e. on arranging traffic relations in the broader centre in favour of public transportation before individual, and of creating the necessary conditions for the development of bicycle and pedestrian transport. The concept is based on the creation of a one-way inner circuit Vajanského nábrežie – Dostojevského rad – Karadžičova – Legionárska – Mýtna – Nám. 1. mája – Sta- romestská – Vajanského nábrežie. This should result in the creation of a four-lane road catering to public transportat (MHD, Taxi’s) in other words, a preference toward vehicles with more than two passengers on board and providing the possibility to create continuous, unbroken roads for cyclists. We propose new parking capacities to be based along this circuit – preferably in underground parking garages. This solution should provide the possibility of a change in the organization of some streets and squares into pedestrian or residential zones with entrance permitted only to residents. We can thus humanize a major part of the centre and extend pedestrian zones; our city will become a place of people, cars and bicycles.
Bratislava for us.
