Idea description:

In order to make Public Transport in Bratislava operable and the travelling by means of it pleasant and comfortable, its bus stops will have to offer to passengers some sort of comfort and extended possibilities of utilization. The bus stops are regularly utilized city premises and in spite of the fact that they are dedicated for waiting „only“, they should become a safe, comfortable and informative environment. Indeed, Bratislava has no underground or stations such as are found in all large cities in various and fascinating forms, but it has MHD bus stops, though all of the same shape with minimum differences. Changing their environment can make travelling by means of public transport as well as waiting for the vehicles more pleasant. The undulating urban intervention shall overlap existing handrails installed along the islands and roads. This measure protects pedestrians from direct contact with cars, however, it does not protect them from the dust, smoke and impurities produced by the cars or offer them any chance of using the MHD bus stop premises, while waiting for transport. Bus stops are usually occupied by people sitting or standing, and these two positions are also consid- ered within the undulating modules of the set of blocks creating a multifunctional wall separating pedestrians from cars in a safe way. Mould formed modules made of recycled plastic use the handrail „body“ as a framework and each of the 10 modules consists of two pieces connected one to another. Modules installed on the handrails give passengers a possibility to sit, to lay, to put their stuff or luggage aside or to lean against the desk. They extend information, street art and marketing surfaces. Their surface arrangements /colour, surface structure/ can be adapted to the environ- ment or to a given purpose. Combining the modules can change the disposition and the length of the total composition. The modules could be produced with technological support of automotive companies who have moulding presses and with the financial support of the public transport company or authorities involved in the given urban environment.
