Idea description:

The term ”public premises“ is a bit of a worn topic within architectonic and civil discussions, but it seems that some matters have to be reminded of
again and again in the bratislava region. Bratislava is expanding and in spite of that public premises disappear as sold or rented properties, or are restructured for premises with prescribed behaviours. In the cities public spaces free private behaviour is bound and carved into our flat interiors.
Un-sold and non-rented public premises are asexual, boring, unusable and full of comic regulations.
We call for higher quality of our spaces! We call for usable spaces!
We call for releasing the spaces and adapting them to our desires!
The inhabitants long for a freedom in the space as well as in outdoor spaces around their dwellings. Should the city fail to offer them these, they escape beyond. The desires can be manifested by a serial concrete grill. It’s a symbol of dreamt-up spatial individualization. It can be seen in suburban houses mini gardens as a symbol representing private premises.
The serial concrete grills used on the pub- lic spaces of the noble Hviezdoslavovo Square
should change the way of perception of the public premises. Such a simple symbol of privacy dem-
onstrates the beginning of the personalization of a public space. Each of us has the right to
pretend that “Hviezdko” is his (her) front garden. Such a grill party in “Hviezdko” shall only be the
beginning, an easily readable icon, just a starting impulse. Its role is to change our habits, to
break the spaces impo- tence and to provoke our public-private behaviour. The time for more
sophisticated personal public premises shall come afterwards.
